In an online statement, Wednesday, August 19, 2015, Google claimed a series of attacks took place on August 13 at its data center in Belgium. Lightning instantly extinguish the power supply system that stores customer data and allows clients to run virtual machines in the cloud.
"Although the auto attendant system to quickly restore power and storage systems are designed with battery backup, some of the data residing on storage systems are more susceptible to power failures due to battery leakage," a statement from Google.
Google says it seeks to make improvements in hardware and software to maximize the reliability of the data center. "Google seek availability very seriously, and durability of storage is our top priority. We apologize to all customers affected by this extraordinary incident," the company statement said.
Google added, lightning struck a local utility grid, and as a result, the network loses power. According to representatives of Google, lightning does not strike the center of the data directly.
